St. Stephen's Church is more than a stone church building at the corner of Three Chopt and Grove, and it's more than what happens here on Sundays. St. Stephen's is a village green--a successor to village churches that used to be built near a courthouse, or at a crossroads, and serving as a center of a community's life. In earlier times, "parishes" were geographic areas whose residents were the spiritual responsibility of the local rector or vicar.
St. Stephen's seeks to honor that legacy by providing community-wide offerings such as our Saturday Farmers Market, city-wide youth choirs, classes open to all, a Boy Scout troop, a weekday preschool, Sunday Community Suppers, a bookshop rich in spiritual and devotional resources, a gift shop run by the Women of St. Stephen's, concerts, speakers, special seasonal services, and more.
You don't need to be an Episcopalian or a member of St. Stephen's or a churchgoer to take part in these offerings. Whoever your are, there's a place for you here.
