Café standards
We care about the health of our community, including the environment, animals, and people in it. We want to provide a space that deepens the connections between people and their food, and educates about more ethical food, labor, animal, and environmental practices. With that in mind:
We avoid products containing high-fructose corn syrup, GMOs, or hydrogenated oils.
We avoid factory-farmed products and seek to work with farmers who treat animals ethically and humanely and do not use growth hormones, antibiotics, or irradiation.
We choose Fair Trade or Direct Trade products when possible, seeking products and producers who pay living wages to their workers. We pay our workers a living wage and work to treat all employees with respect and dignity.
We offer a wide selection which includes a significant array of organic and natural products, seeking to build relationships, give back to the local economy and workers, and practice more sustainable business.
We operate with the environment in mind, sourcing as many recycled and compostable materials as we can. St. Stephen's Church has invested in solar panels and a composting system.
We pay a living wage. We believe our ethics and values need to translate into how we compensate and treat our employees.
