Community Services and Events
All worship services at St. Stephen's are open to all, regardless of whether you are a member, an Episcopalian, or a Christian. All are welcome. Several services are planned especially with the wider community in mind, including:
Blessing of the Animals service: bring your beloved animals for an outdoor service and pet blessing on Sunday, October 8, at 3 p.m. outside the Three Chopt Road entrance to the church. If it rains, we'll all go indoors. Dogs, cats, gerbils, fish...everyone is welcome.
All Saints Day service, November 1: on this major feast day, we offer a service at Noon designed to remember those who have died, particularly those who have died in the past year.
Thanksgiving Day service: this service of Morning Prayer features a sermon and stirring instrumental music and hymns. Read more about this beloved community service, including a brief history of how it came to be, here.
Holiday Memorial Service, November 27: a service for those who have lost a child; read more here.
Two Christmas pageants: A children's pageant occurs on the afternoon of the third Sunday in Advent at 3 p.m., and a youth pageant takes place on the fourth Sunday in Advent during the 11:15 a.m. service. Simple receptions follow each of these services. (PLEASE NOTE: since the fourth Sunday in Advent falls on December 24, Christmas Eve, in 2017, the youth pageant will take place on the third Sunday in Advent.)
In addition to these special services, we hold two community-wide events each September designed to provide fun for the entire community while raising additional funds for outreach: a golf tournament (info here), and the Bluegrass Bash (info here), an all-ages event featuring live music, food trucks, and children's activities.
