Happy Easter! We celebrate the resurrection of Christ and shout Alleluia! I grew up in a family whose Easter celebration embraced pure happiness, from a traditional church service to Easter flowers, new spring outfits to hot cross buns, and a fresh ham for lunch with iced tea in our mother's stemmed crystal glasses. There were egg hunts with malted candy eggs that I ate by the handful. What joy and celebration!

As a parent of young children, I continued the tradition of my childhood: church, flowers, special outfits, delicious meals and fancy glassware, egg hunts and favorite candies filling my children's Easter baskets. Today, living through our pandemic and quarantined in my house, I have celebrated this time with a deep breath and clear eyes. The world has slowed down, bringing this celebration to the forefront, shifting my view. On Easter Day, we did not attend our traditional service at church, and we did not wear new clothes. But we did have time together as a family surrounded by our love for one another, the beauty of flowers and nature, and a gift of time. We watched our church service via computer, in the comfort of our living room and in outfits no one else could see. Our meal was simple, but our time together was rich. We didn't need to rush or fuss over anything; we were simply present and thoughtful, grateful in new ways for the quiet, the stillness, the beauty...What joy and celebration!Happy Easter!
